BELLEVUE, WA – With President Donald Trump’s signature on his “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which eliminates the $200 excise tax on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and firearms classified as “AOW’s,” he has taken a major step toward dismantling the burdensome and oppressive National Firearms Act.

“We congratulate President Trump on his legislative victory, and applaud Republicans on Capitol Hill for removing this ridiculous financial burden from the backs of law-abiding Americans,” said Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. “The sole purpose of this tax was to discourage honest citizens from owning various practical firearms and hearing protection devices, and it never prevented or solved a single violent crime.

“As we move forward toward the ultimate goal of eliminating the NFA,” Gottlieb continued, “we must remember that the fight has revealed who are our real friends in Congress, and the White House, and we will remind America’s tens of millions of ‘gun-voters’ in 2026.

“The work is far from over,” he acknowledged. “But every journey begins with a first step, and passage of President Trump’s ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ with its elimination of the NFA tax will move us closer to the time when the Second Amendment community can file a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of this law, which should be erased in its entirety.

“When Donald Trump returned to the White House,” Gottlieb observed, “he promised to protect the Second Amendment. In just the first six months of his new term, his administration has taken significant steps to do exactly that. He has reversed the anti-gun-rights policies of the previous administration, and taken steps to reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced the Justice Department’s Second Amendment Task Force.

“Our mission to restore the Second Amendment to its full stature as the cornerstone of our Bill of Rights has just been helped dramatically,” Gottlieb stated. “Our hats are off to Mr. Trump, and Congressional Republicans for staying the course.”
