BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is applauding Argentina President Javier Milei for his bold action to reverse a ban on the sale of semiautomatic firearms to private citizens in the country, which was imposed in 1995.

Published reports say the decree, which was signed by President Milei, Security Minister Patricia Bullrich and Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos, authorizes “legitimate users of conditional civilian weapons” to “acquire and possess semi-automatic” firearms featuring detachable magazines.

“Clearly,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “President Milei is a leader who trusts his citizens with the ability to keep and bear arms, and this is a major stride forward. Although Argentina does not have a Second Amendment, the country obviously does have intelligent leadership that understands the difference between law-abiding citizens and criminals.”

This announcement follows an earlier action last month by the Milei administration to streamline the process for issuing gun permits. Milei, while serving in the Argentine Congress, defended firearms freedom, and Security Minister Bullrich also has a record of supporting gun rights in this South American nation.

“We’re honestly impressed with the Milei administration’s announcement,” Gottlieb stated. “This action truly defines genuine ‘gun reform.’ We think there are some politicians in our own country who could learn a few things from President Milei.

“This refreshing new development comes at a time when the United States is also experiencing a remarkable resurgence of administration adherence to our Constitution’s Second Amendment,” he continued. “In just the first six months of Donald Trump’s second term, his administration has reversed the anti-gun demagoguery of his predecessor, and the Department of Justice is actually taking steps to support and defend our right to keep and bear arms within the legal system.

“The Citizens Committee is delighted at this news from Argentina,” Gottlieb said. “Our hope is that President Milei is setting an example many of his South American colleagues will follow.”
