BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is applauding the announcement by Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that the Biden-era “zero tolerance policy” penalizing gun owners and small retailers has been repealed.
In a major DOJ announcement, the agency said it will also review Final Rule 2021R-08F, related to stabilizing braces, and Final Rule 2022R-17F, related to the definition of “engaging in the business” of firearms dealing.
“Those rules were used by the Biden administration to harass and persecute firearms hobbyists and small-operation gun dealers unmercifully,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “and we view this as one more step by the Donald Trump administration to right the numerous wrongs perpetuated by Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and their anti-gun cronies in an effort to erode the Second Amendment. The era of weaponizing federal agencies against millions of law-abiding citizens who simply enjoy firearms ownership is finished, and we will vigorously oppose any future attempts to revive such tyranny.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi makes it clear in the DOJ announcement, “This Department of Justice believes that the 2nd Amendment is not a second-class right. The prior administration’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy unfairly targeted law-abiding gun owners and created an undue burden on Americans seeking to exercise their constitutional right to bear arms.”
Gottlieb congratulated Bondi and Acting ATF Director Kash Patel for following through on earlier vows to review and correct policies initiated by the previous administration.
“Joe Biden, and whoever was guiding his anti-gun agenda while he suffered from diminished capacities, clearly intended to treat gun rights as regulated privileges,” Gottlieb stated. “Their disdain for gun owners, gun shows and neighborhood retailers was well-established, and by trashing Biden’s Enhanced Regulatory Enforcement Policy, the new administration continues to treat America’s Second Amendment community as allies, rather than enemies.”
