CCRKBA APPLAUDS ARKANSAS VOTERS FOR PASSING GUN RIGHTS AMENDMENT

BELLEVUE, WA –  The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms offers its thanks and congratulations to Arkansas voters for passing ballot Measure #2, expanding the state constitutional right to keep and bear arms provision by an overwhelming 70.8% to 29.2%.

ARK. 2 specifies the individual right to have firearms includes possession and use of ammunition, accessories and components. Furthermore, this right protects hunting, recreational shooting and all other lawful firearm uses.

“We are proud of voters in the Natural State,” CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb declared. “By a wide margin, Arkansas citizens reaffirmed their rights so that future generations of gun owners in the state will not only share this right, but never worry about it ever being eroded. The good people of Arkansas turned out to vote when they needed to.”

The opposition offered the typical weak and emotional arguments against ARK. 2, but the majority of common sense Arkansas voters were not fooled, Gottlieb observed. More than 612,000 voters supported the measure, while only 252,650 voted against it.

The expanded constitutional amendment takes effect Jan. 1, 2027. The new language states the right to keep and bear arms is for the common defense, lawful hunting and recreational use, and “Any other lawful purpose.” It says the right to keep and bear arms is a “natural, fundamental, and individual right that shall not be infringed.”

“This is the kind of result you can get when voters turn out,” Gottlieb said. “Arkansas has been known by various nicknames over the years, and today we could add one more: The Freedom State. Arkansas just sent a message to the entire country, that citizens in this great state truly understand what freedom is all about, and they just strengthened in their state constitution.”
