CCRKBA HAILS ACTIONS OF ARMED CITIZEN WHO STOPPED OREGON SCHOOL SHOOTER

BELLEVUE, WA –  With confirmation by police in Bend, Oregon that the suspect in Thursday’s deadly school shooting was stopped by an armed private citizen, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is hailing that person’s actions, which obviously saved lives.

“Once again,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “an armed citizen with a concealed carry license has intervened in a tragic incident, bringing it to an end and preventing further loss of innocent lives. We are heartbroken that three children and a teacher died in this horrendous event, but we are gratified that a local resident had the tool, and the courage, to take quick action.”

During a Thursday evening press briefing, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz told reporters that his offers arrived at the Silver Rail Elementary School within three minutes of the initial call. Moments later, officers reported that the suspect was dead. The suspect was a local Bend resident, but Chief Krantz did not release any details about the firearm he used or how many shots were fired.

“We’re grateful that Gov. Tina Kotek, who traveled to Bend in response to the shooting, was quick to praise the heroic actions of this armed citizen,” Gottlieb stated. “This individual’s willingness to go in harm’s way underscores the continued importance of our Second Amendment rights, and we can only hope this person’s actions will be long remembered in Bend, and throughout Oregon.

“The speed with which police and sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene is also noteworthy,” he added. “There have been other situations in other states when police hesitated, but our hats are off to the lawmen and women in Deschutes County who moved immediately to protect the students and staff at Silver Rail.

“When the need arose,” Gottlieb observed, “an armed citizen was fortunately there to immediately respond. We can all be proud that such people are our neighbors and friends.”
